Yesterday was our first day out on the wide open road as we make our way to southern California. We have agreed that we won’t drive more than a few hours at a time which means we needed to find a stopping point between Waco (our launching point) and Marfa (our destination). My dad (who you will see be referred to as “The Don”) mentioned Junction as a great stopping point. He hasn’t steered me wrong at this point in my life so I took his advice and we headed out with Junction as our destination.
Google maps said it would take around 3 and 1/2 hours to get there which seemed reasonable. In reality it took us more like four hours to get there which wasn’t too bad. When we arrived we noticed there was a carnival happening at the city park near the campsites. Some people would be deterred. We were not! What a fun way to start this journey. I grew up in small town America so when I can get back to place that reminds me of home I embrace it.
Mr. TCP is dead set on more boondocking. I can’t say that I am 100% on board because that means my showers are limited to just a few minutes and I can’t just turn on the coffee pot. Apparently the grinding feature requires more power than our solar panels provide.
I can say that I love the fact that we can just pull over wherever we please and spend the night or a few days without being married to specific RV parks. Our Airstream is fully contained with solar panels which provide a good amount of power so as long as we have enough water on board we are set.
